SHBG stands for sex hormone binding globulin. The more SHBG you have the less active testosterone. For example, my serum testosterone levels were very high (a little over twice the national average for men my age). But my SHBG was extremely high so my available testosterone was low.
Now my serum testosterone is even higher (5x the national average) and high serum testosterone typically causes SHBG to drop. My SHBG has dropped but is still high. My available testosterone is high but not as high as it should be given my total testosterone levels.
So I am trying three different substances that are purported to lower SHBG. They are: Boron, Avena Sativa, and Holy Basil.
In a few weeks I will check my SHBG, total testosterone, free testosterone, and bioavailable testosterone and report it here.
